I'd suggest for anyone who likes; Venemous by penelope Fletcher, Last hour of Ghann and anything from the 'non human sci fi romance listing'

A little bit all over the place in the beginning but just bear with it.
This book almost seemed like every other sci fi romance with a bit of ero. But then you have the non human hero.
And then in my opinion anyway, this series goes into epic sci fi. At the end of the first and beginning of the second is when you start realising the author has a hell of a story unfolding for ya.
Not just cat boy meets human girl, happy ending.
Just read them. All decent sized novels about 500-600 in ebook I think. Great storyline if you can keep up with multiple povs.

A lot of reputations about ‘what a woman is meant to do’. Even though there is a build towards subverting the expectation, I was annoyed. Very heavy on the info dumping in the world

There are plenty of other reviews that describe the story in general so I won't bother with that. I will say that, for me, this was a solid old school science fiction adventure. Granted, this comes from a girl that's spend the past couple of years reading almost nothing but paranormal YA and smutty romance novels. But that's one of the reasons I liked this so much. There's that element of romance, or at least the beginnings of it, mixed in with the world and character building. It felt familiar, despite the fact that I haven't read "true" science fiction in over a decade. This was a great departure from my usual fare, just familiar enough to keep me from feeling out of my depth. My only problem is the dialogue seemed to ramble sometimes with a lot of paragraph breaks during the same characters speech, but that's just stylistic preferences.

I know I must have read this when it first came out, but forgot it entirely except for the 'he's a man-sized cat' thing. Decided to reread now. DNFed at 29% because it's just way too old skool gendered and the human universe it takes place in is astonishingly sexist. It's the sort of thing I would have expected in the 1960s, not the early 90s.
