I found this a little slow to get into, but as soon as I did, from around a third of the way through, it was very gripping. Brilliantly written throughout, with a beautiful picture of the marsh created and lovely biological details particularly in the latter half, it was original and enjoyable to read. Mystery was also interesting and kept me guessing until the last page. 4.5 stars

This was a very unique book for me to read since I usually don't read books like this a lot, but I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I really enjoyed reading about Kya and everything that she went through and how that changed her as a person. I also really like the dual timeline throughout the book that shows Kya's early life (past) and the trial that is happening (present). However there were some things that I personally didn't like, I feel like the ending didn't really land for me, and that made a lot of what happened in the present feel wrong I guess, I just didn't like it.
