I was right about the whodunnit early on but I enjoyed it quite a lot. Strong moral protagonist who’s almost too just, almost Atticus Finchy. But I really enjoy Jury and Melrose and Wiggins.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable, old-fashioned detective mystery. There was no modern technology involved, just pavement pounding, talking to people, following leads, and using powers of deduction. Once in awhile, this can be a refreshing break from authors like Kathy Reichs and the writers of shows like CSI which rely heavily on DNA, crime scene reconstruction, and fingerprint comparison. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that Jury's sidekick, Melrose Plant, was just as involved in this case as he was in The Man With a Load of Mischief. Wiggins also contributed somewhat, instead of being dragged along by Jury like a dead log. The mystery was a bit convoluted in The Old Fox Deceived, but was interesting enough to keep me hanging on and figure out whodunit. I had no idea who the killer was, and I have to give it to Martha Grimes- this was the second time she kept me guessing until the very end. I only wish her books weren't so hard to find. Yes, they're old, but they still pack a great punch. If and when I find the next in the series, I will certainly be reading it.

I got the audio book through my library via Hoopla. I really enjoyed this book. The plot was interesting the characters were interesting. It was well told and I even liked the reader. I recommended it to my friends and family.

Enjoyable story line with some intriguing characters but as others have mentioned, just too many of them with a few totally unnecessary; the aunt lent absolutely nothing to the story. I’m sorry I didn’t keep a character list as at times it became confusing to keep track of who was who and in relation to who…..

My first Richard Jury mystery. I adore Peter Robinson's books starring Banks, and this didn't compare for me. I'm going to try another, later book by Grimes, and see if it suits me more.

Enjoyable although the characters aren't as entertaining as in the first book.

Well done. The ending was surprising without it being a rabbit out of a hat. Good characters. Will be interested to see where the series goes next.

Another good British cozy from M. Grimes. Thought I had the murderer pinned down as I read... but the plot twisted this way and that, and lo, I was mistaken. Ah well, if I could figure it out that easily, it wouldn't be that good.

I do love this series. And this book is one of the best.
