Loved it!

I have to say that I loved this book. I like that i t is written from the POV of both main characters. This new world is exciting and I can't wait for the conclusion.

.

Galin’s dad, Gorm, the king of the High Elves, is a power-hungry lunatic. He wants to kill off all the Night Elves for no real reason, but Galin keeps finding excuses to stop him because Ali is a Night Elf. And she’s also the other half of his heart.

So the dodgy King Gorm proposes a Winnowing to the leaders of the Night Elves, and because they’re desperate, they accept. What is a Winnowing you ask? Well it’s a series of “contests” that halves the number of elves participating each time. 300 elves from each clan to start with, and whoever has the most elves left at the end, wins. And whoever wins, gets to rule over all the elves. Simple, right?

Except it doesn’t end up being that straightforward of course. Surprises and twists at every turn, assassination attempts, unlikely allies, cheaters, you name it. It’s a mess, but in the best way.

The only thing is I’m not sure I really felt the chemistry between Galin and Ali. Yes, they’re physically attracted to one another, and their mate bond makes them protective of each other, but the falling in love bit just almost felt…missing in a way? I mean I’m still routing for them, still shipping them, just wish there’d been a bit more development of their feelings amongst all the action. And I don’t mean sexual action…I wish!

Gorm was awful, as we know, but Revna? Not the full shilling, a few sandwiches short of a picnic, has a screw loose, etc. Shudders.

The first half of this book made me roll my eyes. It seemed that any growth that occurred in the first book just disappeared in this first half. Eventually the plot and relationship moved forward but with too much miscommunication trope happening.

The back third of the book was well put together, enough to get me to finish the series and see where this goes.

Romance is still a subplot in the book although there is one semi spicy scene.

Decently written but I wasn’t in the mood for how much of a slow burn/back and forth this is. Maybe I’ll come back to listen this when I’m in the mood for it.

Yup, I am obsessed, and let me tell you why.

The characters get deeper into fate and free will. Their journey is foretold, their love destined while at the same time not, and their paths difficult. Ali hasn't cared about fate since day one because let's face it if fate is real it sentenced her people to the underground where they are slowly dying. Galin is the opposite. He lived for the gods but they are gone and now all he has is Ali. And if he has to toss fate on its ass to get her he will. The struggle is real for them both and I have a feeling the third, and final book will make all this waiting I will be doing (impatiently I might add) worth the wait. The world has changed, for better or worse, fate, destiny, and love will battle and things will never be the same. Also, I gotta say I love the flashes to what we consider the modern-day world (for them the past). Beyonce is not my fave artist but the girl got spunk and Ali could have a worse role model.

So interesting

This story is action packed from beginning to end. It leaves you with no room for boredom. I love the fact that it is a quick read, yet the author fills the pages with very interesting twists and turns

i wish theyd both been eaten by the giant clam in book one but at least the idiot man died in  this one. I do not like either of them. There is nothin  eve  remotely romantic about their relationship (except they banged against a wall, closed door btw) and she was sad when he took an arrow for her. Not fond of this serie  at all.

I enjoyed the memes & music talk last book. There's none except the mention "halo" at the very end.
