I watched the show and didn't really like it- Rick is so annoying and holier than thou; but I liked the concept, so I thought the graphic novels might have more backstory and make these characters more appealing. And while I realize that they were going for a more human angle to the zombie apocalypse story, the book still just felt really soap-opera esque to me. Not bad, but not for me.

This has been the weirdest experience. Some book characters were molded into one on the TV shows, some are totally different or have a different origin story.
And there's another thing - reading a trade is pretty much the equivalent of tv binge watching. This book collected 12 issues which cover what on TV is like 2.5 seasons except I didn't have that monthly waiting period so everything felt like it escalated ridiculously quickly.
No doubt this story deserves to be told in a visual medium and while comics is just that, I think TV flatters this gory, emotional story more. Characters have more nuanced development.
That's no to say that this is a bad read, it's not, it's just weird when you come to it after watching the show. That said I'm really intrigued by reading more and keep doing the comparison and see how I feel about things when I'm deep into the story.

This was so freaking amazing. I didn't care that it was all in black and white and I think that's because I'm used to reading manga in black and white. The story line is amazing and you never know where it's going to go simply because the characters are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. I mean I gave no idea what I would do in their situation. I definitely would lose my mind. The story is intricate and follows several different characters as they try to band together to fight the humans who have turned into the walking dead. I loved the artwork and where the story is headed. I also love that you almost can't trust anyone because they can turn on you at any moment. That ending had me thinking about where the next issues are going to take the characters as they try to survive the mess their world has become. I definitely will be checking out the series adaptation of this book as well.

Creo que la serie tiene algo que a los cómics les falta. Lo cual es irónico porque la serie está basada en el cómic pero no sé... en los cómics todo parece ir tan ¿rápido? ¿Puede que sea porque he visto la serie antes?
En fin... no me ha llegado a impresionar este tomo pero supongo que seguiré por la simple curiosidad de saber qué es lo que cambia en ambas.

What can I say? People have been bugging me to read this for months and I finally gave in and loved it. It's my first real experience with zombies and I did enjoy the concept. Will definitely be hunting out the rest of these!
