I never thought that being a die-hard (albeit new) fan of monster romance would lead me to read a short retelling novel in which the beast has never been and never will be a human prince. Most of all, that I'd like it... I found the idea of this retelling interesting but found both the plot and the relationship between the characters short and rushed. If it had been +100 pages longer, it would have fixed those problems but you also have to take into account that it is a short novel.
Graphic: Sexual content, Sexual violence, Violence, Trafficking, and Stalking
Moderate: Confinement, Cursing, Death, Blood, and Grief
Minor: Alcoholism, Toxic relationship, and Pregnancy

“You’re not what I expected,”
“You are everything I envisioned.”
The Beast is a new release by Jenika Snow and the first book I’ve read of hers. It is a Beauty and the Beast AU Retelling in which the Beast never turns human.
The novella was good but I felt it could’ve been better, which disappointed me because all the kinks mentioned within the story were right up my alley. My only critique for the book would be the repetition and lack of build up for the relationship. When it came to dirty talk, the constant use of “you’ll be all mine” and “I’ll fill your womb with my young” every other paragraph per chapter made it kind of boring. Which is saying something because I love a good possessive MMC with a breeding kink! I just felt like the repeated phrases made the novella fall a little flat in the kink aspect when it came to dirty talk. Not to mention he would only refer to Belle as “wife” and although that’s cute I think he could’ve switched it up a bit yk? I just wish the nicknames and dirty talk was at least paraphrased through the story and perhaps a little dirtier seeing as the MMC is a literal beast 🤷🏻♀️ As for the build up I know it’s a novella but a smidge of angst couldn’t hurt within the first couple chapters instead of instant attraction, especially since it started out one sided. The writing felt kind of rushed which makes the story a genuinely fast paced book considering how short it is.
Other than that I love how Belle and the Beast’s story ended and I’m happy to see some plus size FMC rep (given her curvy description that’s how I pictured Belle).
**ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN** This novella is one I would recommend to people who like a quick read with great spice so if what I’ve mentioned doesn’t bother you, please give this book a read!
Graphic: Cursing, Sexual content, Violence, Stalking, and Abandonment
Minor: Blood and Murder

This novella is an absolute filthy (in the best way) Beauty and the Beast retelling. There were definitely some trigger warnings to keep in mind before reading as the book doesn’t shy away from things.
As a complete story, it was lacking as things were fast-paced and left things feeling sort of rushed plot wise. As a spicy novella, however, the story hit its mark. From the Beast’s dirty talk to ultra sexy primal kink scenes, this work will have you reaching into that special bedroom drawer.
Since it is a novella, it’s a quick read with a majority of the work being dedicated to smutty scenes. If you’re looking for something engaging and thought provoking, this piece probably isn’t for you. If you’re looking for a quick read of something spicy that has wonderful dirty talk, Beast fucking, and primal play, then you’ve found the book.
For the writing, well at times it could be a bit much, but nothing glared out as terrible in any way. There were some elements of the story that were a bit outside the realm of reality, but hey, it’s a story about a girl having sex with a Beast so reality probably doesn’t matter here. Either way, the story is surely an A+ for some while others will shy away from it as not their thing. And if gratuitous and hedonistic monster sex isn’t your thing, this neither is this story.
