Cute characters and love that they had a mutual love for books. Every book lovers dream! But the
Spoilercheating plot
really ruined it for me. And having
Spoilerher dad die on the same evening?????
that’s evil… felt a bit disconnected from the book towards the end - might have been a me problem but I also felt like I lost interest based on how they reacted to the Rachel situation too idk.

I just didn't like it, but I'm glad I read it nonetheless.  The following is spoilers galore:
Spoiler The reveal with her dad could be seen coming from a mile away, and I felt like it was such a contrived cop out to the story. I also wish we saw more of the time in-between their reunion, with like more information on how she chose medicine and her life as a doctor. I also wanted to know about him because if anything, his path seemed most likely to be medical. I also felt like Elliot was better only in comparison to Sean, but I failed to see his own appeal independently. I feel like to an extent, the characters despite being a "character driven" book, felt like half-realized carboard cut outs that tend to wax poetic. Although, all this said doesn't mean I dislike it, it was still written really well and certain passages stuck out and will stay with me for a long time. On the final note, I didn't like how quickly we glossed over Elliot literally being a victim and the associated trauma with that. It definitely needed to be addressed.

i wish i would have read this book in high school because i related so much to teenage Macy. i loved this book. typically, im not the biggest fan of the second chance storyline or switching timelines between now + then, but i couldn’t put this one down. definitely my favorite christina lauren i’ve read so far

God, this book will make you feel things you’ve never dreamed of feeling. The loss I feel for never having grown up with my own Elliot will haunt me for the next while.

This story deals with grief growing up, how to open your heart and letting those around you care for you and picking yourself back up after a break-up… Or not in Macy’s case. I loved every minute of this book and it’s been a long time since i’ve cried this much.

We always want someone who will follow us to the end of the earth, but what I love most about Elliot & Macy’s relationship is the brutal but beautiful honesty they have together.

I wasn't particularly fond of how the character was written. As an individual, it flowed how there was so much more to unpack. The intense avoidant detachment coming from it was insanely unhealthy for the sake of so-called friendship. Reading this has made me realize once again why the romance genres are so not my type of reading. Reeling away from processing grief, not facing reality, steering to convenience rather than actually living and not just merely passing by time, knowing someone just at arm's length, and settling for less—it follows a concept of the character's journey towards her perception and life in general. As the experience she endowed was distraughting enough, it's good overall, but it was icky for some reason. It's a shame I had to skip some parts because it just wasn't it.
