I love that the chapters alternated between “then” and “now.” I loved watching Elliot and Macy’s relationship evolve. They were so cute (as friends and as more).
I definitely cried when Macy shared the full side of her story. That is just so heartbreaking! I can’t say I could’ve made it through that situation.
Spoiler
Some of my critiques: I find it a little unrealistic that they could jump back into things so soon. Especially after 11 YEARS! And especially after everything Macy went through! Then again, I didn’t meet and grow up with the true love of my life, so what do I know? Also, I don’t like the way THE incident was handled. Macy’s life was destroyed for two reasons on the same day, but so was Elliot’s (even though neither of them knew about the other’s situation). It would’ve been completely out of character for Elliot to intentionally do something stupid, but I hate that he was sexually assaulted. AND THAT HE APOLOGIZED SO MUCH FOR IT! And tried to downplay it as being just drunk and delusional.Moderate: Sexual content, Car accident, Grief, Infidelity, Sexual assault, Death, and Death of parent
Minor: Drug use, Pregnancy, Vomit, and Alcohol

Basically, their childhood best friends turned lovers then something happens and they don’t speak for 11 years until they run into each other, quiet literally, at a coffee shop but now their both in different relationships etc. The book switches back and forth between when they were kids and present day, both storylines heading toward what caused the fallout, until they converge with the night they stopped talking. While the reason they had a falling out is anticlimactic and predictable, everything else from that day is now and OUCH I really didn’t see that coming and Christina Lauren really didn’t need to do us like that.
Would have gotten 5 stars from me if it wasn’t for the cause of their falling out tainting their relationship for me. 🤷🏻♀️
