Georgia and her daughter move into a house in a small town. For the last 20 or so years, the house has been empty and cared for by a man named Brick.
I actually hate both of these characters. Georgia is a naive pushover. She lets Jess walk all over her. Anytime she tries to stand up for herself, he just steamrolls her and "puts her in her place". Jess is a gaslighting, manipulative, controlling asshole. He forces her into a relationship and to introduce him to her daughter even though she said she wasn't ready. He constantly talks down to her and over her, makes decisions without her input, and has angry outbursts towards her and her daughter. He takes her places to "show her off" and "steak his claim" on her. Just gross.
The writing was clumsy and all over the place. There seemed to be a lot of drama that went nowhere. The "suspense" side plot was pretty predictable.
I am so disappointed. I love the Eden series. But this one was so full of misogynistic bullish, I almost DNFed it. I won't be continuing with this series.
Tropes: small town, single parent
