WITTY WOMEN 🙌 Rosalind and Celia had me giggling at times and I loved it. There were parts of underlying misogyny and I assume that is down to the age of the book (doesn’t excuse it) but I enjoyed the play. I had to do a monologue from this play and saw multiple monologues which I thought were great to use. Rosalind was a strong, intelligent women and was extremely funny. I would defo recommend this play to others especially those looking for classical monologues!

The "No Fear Shakespeare" editions are, in my opinion, the only way to go if you're a little hazy on all that Elizabethan language. Each left-side page contains the original text, and each right-side page contains a modern translation along with the occasional helpful note. It was MUCH easier than trying to struggle through the syntax alone.

I've discovered that it's hard to say whether one really enjoys a Shakespeare play or not until one has seen it WELL acted. Reading the lines, even aloud, is okay, but it's the staging, and the pausing, and all the stuff that goes into a production, that make it really come alive. If I get the chance, I would watch this performed. Just reading it, I would say I liked it well enough and it certainly had some immortal quotes in it. I think "Much Ado About Nothing" will probably remain my favorite, though!

Nice change of pace from the tragedies I’ve been reading by Shakespeare

This is my first read of an entire Shakespeare play. From what I know of Shakespeare this play has much stronger female characters than his other works. Particularly Rosalind and Phoebe, who I found quite loveable and relateable. The way the character's deal with complex thoughts and feelings through humour felt very truthful. I particularly enjoyed the call to texts of the day, such as the bible and common sayings/myths, that were integrated into the character's conversations. I loved the clever comedy with Shakespeare's women being played by men. A great study, and a great read for someone new to Shakespeare. The side-by-side translation was very helpful, while I thought some passages could have had better word choice.

Forvirret? Det er jeg skam også.

Quite possibly my new favorite Shakespeare play. Beautifully written as usual, and with a sharp comedy. I prefer to read the original version, but I cannot lie, having the plain English nearby is really helpful sometimes.

What a witty show! Very funny indeed. I have the translated version as well (I was in the show) and it was very nice to read. Definitely recommend!

There’s a lot going on in this plot. Rosalind is pretty great. I thought this was one of Shakespeare’s more boring plays, but it’s always different watching the play than reading it.
