A well written murder, best understood after a second reading. Holds up amongst her other titles, I was pleasantly shocked.
The use of the “silly old lady” trope helps heighten tension in some places and highlights one of the key turning points of the mystery. It helps that Agatha Christie was good at distinguishing the different types of silly old ladies, and making each of them endearing in their own way. The reveal was shocking enough to be a surprise, but believable enough to make sense during the detective’s synopsis. The only thing that was a little too rushed was the triple reveal at the end.

The level of xenophobia in this... It's definitely of its time. Other than that the plot was fun however I guessed the twist pretty easily.
the pip and Emma storyline was interesting and I enjoyed it
Overall a nice read to pass time but very xenophobic and not one of her greatest.

I was quite impressed with this story as it is the first I've read of Miss Marple. The twists weren't predictable, but you did have the clues to correctly guess them ahead of time as they did make sense if you'd been paying attention. The reveal was one of my favorites because I started realizing clues that I'd missed (even though my guess as to who the murderer was and who the twins were was correct) and it all really did make sense.

The characters were fairly likeable, although the xenophobic views many held were not. It does fit the characters age and the timeline of the story, so it does feel like a genuine look into the outlook people had towards foreigners in a small town. They were written in a way that was easy to imagine and keep decent track of. There were many characters, so it did get a bit confusing at times, but I did manage to keep track of who was who by the midway point.

Overall, this was a fun read and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good whodunit.

This was an interesting read that I did for the #readagatha2021 challenge. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The characters were all suspicious to me, which I liked as it kept things interesting. I didn't expect the ending, so that's nice!

As with many of Agatha's works, I felt like it could have been shorter. She has a tendency to drag things out that don't need to be, but that might just be my personal taste.
