This was really enjoyable. It was harder hitting than I thought it was going to be. I honestly forgot what this was about so it was basically a mystery to me. I loved a lot of the topics discussed like grief and family and coming of age as while as sexuality. I really enjoyed the characters even though they were really quirky. I didn’t really love the writing style and how everything was described like it was to arty for me. Which makes sense why because they are artists but it was too much for me at times. Also I didn’t love the age gap of a 16 year old and a 19 year old. They did discuss it but then they just continued on.

I read this book to come out of a reading slump and oh boi, did it help. I think I knew what I was getting into when I started it - turns out I was wrong, luckily I guess. It seems like a love story at first and it is, but not how you‘d imagine it to be. While the romantic relationships play an important part for the plot and are very well done but actually it is about the love between twins who lose and find each other several times over the years. It’s got some great life lessons, inspirations and is generally a very well rounded , enjoyable story.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHGH I CANNOT PUT MY LOVE FOR THIS BOOK INTO WORDS. I’m literally using every little neuron in my brain right now to type out these stupid sentences. These characters are so alive, I feel like I know and love them like a bestfriend. It’s like we’ve laughed and cried together and sending them off when I finished this book just crushed me. I wish I could read this forever, embed myself in the pages. I wish I could create art like this -writing or painting- but that means I haven’t learned shit from reading this. It doesn’t matter if I’m good, it doesn’t matter if I’m shit. I’m probably both at once. In the beginning I was so attached to Noah, I felt that he and I were too similar, then comes along Jude and it’s that same feeling a second time. Never have I felt like this twice in one book. It’s a quarter to one and I’m having a full blown crisis. Usually I assign a song to every book I finish but I don’t know anything that’ll sum up this experience (I STAND CORRECTED LOL)

Song:
  • Lost It to Trying - Son Lux
  • this is me trying - Taylor Swift

When I first started this book, I had no motivation to read it and was kind of iffy about it (that might be cause I read it for my school read for the unit), but then toward the end once everything started connecting I was so interested and was getting like whiplash from it all. It was truly such a beautiful book and honestly still haven’t processed it all. I recommend it a lot, especially if you’ve dealt with Greif or loss of any kind, it truly gave me a wake up call a bit and made me feel more grateful for my brother.

while i liked the writing style and some ideas discussed, the plot felt weirdly chunky and i hate certain characters because of how they were written, it was like a good soup that was ruined by too many undercooked ingredients

Although I did finish this book quite quickly, and I thoroughly enjoyed its writing style, the plot just folded together too nicely for my liking by the end, any would-be morally grey characters were redeemed and felt underdeveloped!
