A charmer! Lovely story about how exposure to great art changes the lives of the people in a small Welsh town.

Easily a favorite children's story from the first chapter! Dylan is the only boy left in his entire Welsh village - so he can't look forward to a proper game of football until his baby brother Max turns about 7. In the interim, he mistakenly becomes exposed to priceless works of art being stored in the local mountain for safekeeping by the National Gallery in London. Through mix-ups involving the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the insurance value on a Mini Cooper, and a piece of art missing from the gallery collection since WWII, the small village is exposed to classic paintings that remind them of relationships, beauty and creativity long-berried in their slate-grey town. I loved every page of this book, and see why it has garnered so many awards and attention. The BBC adaptation of the story is delightful as well!

What originally attracted me to this book was the interesting cover. I wasnt sure whether to get this book as it's narrated by a nine year old boy but im really glad i did! The characters are loveable, funny and sometimes crazy, and the storyline is great. It's just a beautiful and funny story about the power of art and how it.can change different people.and i really loved it.

As with all Frank Cottrell Boyce books, an intriguing and horizon-broadening premise, loveable characters, a lot about British (in this case, Welsh) culture. Very fun, very interesting and I loved the art and the vehicle detail.

The audiobook is a total delight. I've listened to it many times. It's funny and sweet and quirky. In Wales. With art. TMNT. You'll like it.

I couldn't get enough of this story, and I'm not just saying that because of the fabulous Welsh narrator. (Pick an audiobook with a British accent. Any book. You won't be sorry.) A young boy's love for his small town, his charmingly dysfunctional family, and their epic tale of stolen art. So good! But really, it had me at the excessive Ninja Turtles references...
