Solid advice! I'll definitely hold onto this as a reference for years to come. Thanks to Joanna for Penning (haha) such a helpful volume!

Exactly what it says on the tin: tons of good advice on how to market books. Includes many gems like links to lists of recommended book editors, examples for everything, software recommendations and a lot more. A good book for any author, I believe.

I would give this a 4.5 if I could as it really is essential and very easy reading for beginner indie authors out there. It's informative, punchy and encouraging reading for anyone new to the author publishing and it's a great base to form a (very long!) to do list for marketing your book and future books. To be revisited...

'How to Market A Book' is a practical book full of fascinating insights into book marketing. Joanna Penn has gathered a lot of knowledge in this area of the year as she's blogged at The Creative Penn. She has applied this knowledge to her own books and now shares it all with us in one concise volume.

I found the section on content marketing particularly interesting. In fact, as a result of reading it I have started my own youTube series talking about books, movies and games.

Anyone who is an author, or who hopes to be an author some day, should read this book. It's never too early to start thinking about this stuff.

Covers all the bases!

While there were sections in this book that didn't apply to me (like fiction and fiction series), there were so many others that did, which is like any book. And you felt like you were getting a primer where the author put real effort into covering most areas you'd want to know about. There are plenty of tips and tricks along the way, and the author offers resources for additional study or to use that are from others or on her own website.

I'm in book publishing, just wanting to learn more about marketing, though I have my own blog on religion (davidrmorris.me: Joanna, it's about psychology and religion) and have started a nonfiction manuscript, so I found this an accessible guide that wasn't heavy on any one thing but, again, left me feeling I know something more about just about anything you need to know.

I listened to the audiobook while walking the dog, exercising, and driving. Enjoyed the narrator's British accent, especially the way she said Amazin (for Amazon). I know that's stupid to say, but it was nice to hear someone from the "other side of the pond". And most of her fans are in the US, anyway.

This book provides a nice and comprehensive overview of how to market a book, with tons of information that's applicable to both self-published and traditionally published authors. Even though the book was published in 2017 (at least, the edition I read was), it's got a lot of relevant information, and not much was out of date (though no mentions of BookTok, obviously!)
Highly recommended!

She goes over all the basics + more. Just remember, though, that createspace is now apart of KDP.

Another amazing five-star read by the goddess that is Joanna Penn! Great resources and ideas for both traditional and indie authors. Going on my list of marketing book recommendations for new writers for sure.

This was a helpful and fast read! I finished it in two days. It was clear and had lots of concrete tips and helpful resources and USA great overview for people starting out, though it doesn't have as much to offer for the intermediate level marketer of novels. I learned a few things and really liked the book!
