I was reliably informed that it was nothing short of criminal to have progressed this far in life without reading the Amelia Bedelia books. A good friend recently remedied this heinous oversight in my literary education. I'm a bit past the target audience in age, but the books were cute. Probably best I didn't read them as a kid: eight-year-old Stephanie would've been irked by Amelia. "How are you old enough to be employed but still ignorant of idioms??"

Decent.
As you read you have to make your own edits to improve the pacing, the rhythm, etc., but it’s mostly good.

There are better puns in other Amelia Bedelia books.
And she has a brief tantrum, which felt odd.

Mr and Mrs. Roger’s reactions were strong in this book and raised the question of why they put up with it if she causes so much misery.

Other books make her behavior seem more juvenile and harmless.

Love Amelia Bedelia, but this one was lackluster.

I had a moment of recognition on p. 8 when Amelia Bedelia started to hit the road; my Mum (whose first language is Dutch) did exactly the same thing when she first came to Australia. So maybe Amelia isn't a poster child for Asperger's, after all, merely an immigrant struggling with an often baffling tongue.
