I really enjoyed this installment I the Mercy-verse. Loved Gary! Hated Christy so very much! I disliked how much Auriele and Mary Jo cling to her, but I am loving Honey’s character Mira and more. I love the relationship between Mercy and Adam and how solid it feels, even given all this relationship turmoil. Darryl is growing on me, and Warren and Kyle are as always fantastic! I wish we’d gotten more of Ben, but maybe next time.

"An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart." (From Amazon)

I have caught up on the Mercy Thompson series, but now have to wait for another adventure. I loved this adventure and the suspense element. As much as I did not like Adam's ex I am glad we saw her character.

I keep reading the Mercy Thompson novels out of some misguided sense of nostalgia. Mercy and Adam's relationship is saccharine. The writing is wooden and awkward. I hope I remember to read this review when I am tempted to read the next in the series.

Night Broken is fast-paced and filled with action, fights and romance, on top of that, there's a little drama because Adam's ex comes to stay with them - for once seeking help and comfort from the pack.

Full review to come soon.

Night Broken
4 Stars

The victim of a vicious stalker, Adam’s ex, Christy, arrives on the doorstep and proceeds to make Mercy’s life miserable. Whether it is taking over the kitchen or the bathroom or the entire pack, Christy takes full advantage of her situation and Mercy make it her top priority to locate the stalker just to get Christy out of her hair. Unfortunately, things are not as they seem and the threat posed by Christy’s less than human stalker becomes more and more dangerous to everyone Mercy holds dear.

An entertaining addition to the series with an action packed storyline and compelling character development. The pack’s history with Christy is quite insightful and it was interesting to see which members could be manipulated and which ones couldn’t.

Adam’s interactions with Christy are the most annoying element as even though he is quite aware of her narcissistic personality, he still allows her to browbeat him and isn’t as assertive as he could have been with her. He should have put her in her place immediately rather than waiting until Mercy’s life was in danger.

Another highlight is the reappearance of Coyote and the Walking Stick, but this is undermined once again by the negative portrayal of the female characters other than Mercy and Julie (although Honey does seem to have mellowed and the possibility of a love interest for her is intriguing).

In sum, despite my issues with the series, the books are fun to read.

3.5 stars, giving it a 3 because I know that Patricia can do better.

A little bit less strong than the other books. But still good.
One thing of this books is that it's hard to stop reading them. But this one.. was a little bit more on the drama side than the action. Adam's ex is a real bitch. And the pack is just... blind at this point.

Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. That's our Mercy.

I always said that exes are the worst monsters that haunt pour lives. And Night Broken is the proof. ;)
Not bad at all. I only miss some characters that stopped appearing in this series like Samuel, Gabriel, ...
