Compelling world building, character dev is wayyyyy too slow for me— hate feeling like I don’t even know the MC after ~300pgs of first person narration

So yeah, still unsure with Auren. Lots of potential but got little to nothing after a lot of on page time together. Very show don’t tell with her development but I want more what’s going through her head.

Liked the spin on the King Midas story. Auren’s Stockholm Syndrome is totally showing, but I love her inner commentary and positive attitude. I definitely see her character growing already and look forward to seeing her strength blossom. I already know Midas is a bad guy. . .because he’s blonde. Lol. Diving into Book 2 immediately.

So far its a bery interesting story and im interested to see where it goes.

In the beginning it seems like Auden was turned to gold, or golden touched as thry call her, by King Midas. And it seems like he is the one with the power to turn people to gold, and maybe he does but im not so sure anymore. Especially since Auden turned someone to gold. And told Rissa not to tell anyone.

Makes me wonder what King Midas power really is, because he has to have some power because it would be weird if no one had ever seen him turn something to gold.

I guess we will find out as the series continues.

WOW…check trigger warnings for sure.

I couldn’t put it down.  So much happened in a short time. I wasn’t expecting the story to take the turns it did. I loved that there wasn’t the feeling of knowing what was coming. Great world and character building. I’m ready for the next one.

I can see how this book could be triggering for some as the main character is the favourite in a harem/brothel. Her master is King Midas and as his favourite she’s been gold touched, the other women are called saddles. As the main character is gold, she stands out, and she’s the only one Midas does not share. The world is very patriarchal and the women are seen as sex objects. I found her an interesting character. Despite the fact she was owned by Midas she relies on him for safety and loves him. It reminded me of Stockholm syndrome. The women witness the men discussing war, and they get sold off to earn favour with armies. There is a lot of politics at play too, and who to trust. The book ends on a cliff hanger, and I was very curious about a character introduced at the end that I will NEED to read the next book.
