This book had its ups and downs, but in the end, it was a cute adventure story with great character growth; just what I like in a stand alone.

A teriffic plot and a memorable story. The blurb explains what the book is about pretty well so I'll leave out an overview. I will say however, that their world was rich with different cultures and people.

Tashi and Ramil are quite a dynamic pair. I knew there was supposed to be romance in this book but I expected it to be different. They seemed so young but did things that were responsible-most of the time. They reacted off of each other most of the time. The secondary characters grew on me. How come I don't have a big guy to watch over me, shove off anyone who's giving me a look?

This book had an underlying messages of religious tolerance and cultural differences. This was done well, meaning I didn't feel like I was being bashed over the head with the message. It also had other messages like the price of war and peace.

The only qualm I have with the book was Tashi. Now she is a good character all around but there were parts where I was just begging her to do something and she did something else. It probably turned out best that she didn't do what I wanted her to but it frustrated me nonetheless. I guess I was expecting something like Tamora Peirce's headstrong kick-some-butt kind of things from Tashi though it was clear she just isn't the type to do that.

An extremely enjoyable read and I hope to find more like it.

This book had me hooked from the very first page! And the way that Tashi and Ram take an instant disliking to each other makes you hope that they will end up together in the end.

This book was really good. It had lots of action with a nice balance of romance, but still clean. The style of writing was totally new to me and at first it was intimidating, but I kind of grew on it.

Dragonfly is fast paced with endearing characters who grow and develop as the plot progresses. There is just enough suspense with a few surprises. Golding creates an interesting world with varying cultures and kingdoms that had me thinking which country and people group I'd most like to be a part of. The politics aren't over simplified or over complicated. In a market over saturated with varying interpretations of magic, I was glad that magic doesn't appear at all in this book. It's almost as if she was making a good humored joke at the fantasy world's expense. And I absolutely enjoyed the age appropriate love story. The book is built on strong, positive morals and convictions. I appreciated the author challenging young readers as she skillfully deals with issues of discrimination, prejudice, and religion. It's a story of heroes, warriors, kings and queens, born princes and chosen princesses, tyrants, slaves, horse riding nomads, and rebels; but above all, it's a story of a girl learning about grace.

Personally, I'd recommend it for girls, age 12 - 18 years. However, as a 28 year old adult, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and read it one sitting.

Countries are on the verge of war, an evil dictator looks to take over the world. Tashi, is from a small island country called the Blue Crescent Islands, the islands and their culture are very similar to traditional Japanese traditions and practices. Ramil, is from a country called Gerfal, which has the feel of a medieval-european society. Suddenly Gerfal and the Blue Crescent Islands are targets of the dictator Fergox; the countries decide to form an alliance. To ensure that this alliance is never broken they use Tashi and Ramil as their pawns, forcing them into a marriage.
Dragonfly's romance is some what cliche and predictable but it still captures your heart. Tashi and Ramil ardently despise each other but by the end of the book they cannot be seperated. When the two characters get kidnapped and embark on a dangerous adventure they learn to tolerate and even respect each other. Readers cannot deny the characters feelings. I fell in love with these two characters instantly. The world that Golding creates in the novel is absolutely beautiful, the peoples struggle for healing and for good strikes your heart. I loved watching these characters grow and develop through out the wonderfully written novel.
Julia Golding possess a good writing style, it flows nicely. She writes the characters beautifully, her humor is amazing! Dragonfly is definitely an easy, fun read! The adventure, fantasy, and romance drew me into the novel instantly! This is the perfect beach novel. A good light entertaining read which will pull right on your heart strings!
