The plot and characters were okay but pales in comparison to the earlier books .

As a thriller novel, this book is pretty great. It's got a solid plot that all links together cleverly and a whole cast of characters to keep you busy. It's difficult to fault it from the genre's perspective. The issue is when you look at it as a novel in the Millennium Series. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite fit. You follow Lisbeth and Mikael as usual but they feel very much like secondary characters, it took far too long for Lisbeth in particular to be introduced in the novel. I think the author tries to include the perspective of too many different characters, sadly at the detriment of the two main characters. If you had asked me who the protagonists were, I would have probably said Svala and Henry. Svala, I can understand. Being Lisbeth's niece, there is the potential to continue the story with her. Henry, I do not understand. Yes he's an important part of the story but that could have been displayed in other ways without him taking the spotlight. It was just frustrating reading a Millennium book to see the story develop with Lisbeth and Mikael only to get something completely different. I want to say Smirnoff has done a great job at continuing the series but that wouldn't be entirely truthful, if she writes another installment, hopefully the focus shifts to where it should be. Overall, an enjoyable thriller but as it fell a bit short as part of the series, I was left a bit disappointed.

Lisbeth Salander has been named the guardian of her niece when the girls mother mysteriously disappears. It doesn't take long for Lisbeth to realize that the girl is being watched.

Mikael Blomkvist's daughter is getting married. But how well does she really know her fiancé.

I don't know if it was the translation, but I found the writing to be very choppy. The stories jumped back in forth that made it at times confusing.
In the end the story was enjoyable, but the writing was not my thing.
I have loved this series, but I don't think I will continue with this latest author at the helm.
