This book was pretty insane from start to finish and I literally cannot wait to watch the movie adaptation. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because I am not huge into reading about wars and battles, so whenever one happens I’m like *yawwwnnn*. I also don’t love that the resolution to the book post climax is like half of the book itself, but I can’t be too mad because the resolution was so well-written and tied everything up so well. I feel so accomplished that I read this story and am very happy that I did, it has made me a bit more interested in reading Fantasy!

PS. Sam >>> Frodo in my opinion

What can i possibly say in a review of one of the world's most read books? I enjoyed it, i found it a little hard going in places, but finished it. Read first years ago, and then again after seeing the film. After second read, I found bits that i had missed first time round, and that made some parts of the film much clearer. Glad i gave it a second go!

I'm not a war story-person, but this book is filled with enough wonder and grandeur and suspense and love to hold me captivated. I especially love the care with which Tolkien treats the resolution of each character's story arc. I usually hate dragged-out endings, but this feels so loving that I can't help but savor each moment.

This book also weaves emotion so deftly within its grand storylines. The scale of the story never obscures the individual, yet the individual never distracts from the bigger picture.

I love that the resolution of the story has more to do with the reestablishment of good than with the eradication of evil. The first books build up to the defeat of Sauron, so it's a special treat that when all is said and done this defeat is only the set-up for a greater good.

I totally forgot Gandalf went to hang with Tom
Bombadil after it all settled down in Gondor.

This series is hands down the most amazing single journey I've ever read. I love how Tolkien switches between the different battle fronts to heighten that dramatic irony. I loved the deeper look into the problems of every (and I mean every) character and how they overcame them (or didn't) in the end. I loved how the end wasn't really the end. I know Tolkien's writing style may seem boring and overly descriptive at first 100 pages, but if you stick with it, you won't regret it.
