Interesting but very wordy and didn't really stick with me. Maybe my son at 2.5 with some language delays is still too young though

Very interesting techniques for encouraging empathy and emotional well being in children (and yourself!), I liked the little cartoons and how half of each child chapter was actual practical advice. Only negative was it was a bit dense with the science behind the brain connections, I skimmed quite a lot of those bits.

Really simple to read and apply some easy-to-learn concepts. The how-to on some of the ideas is a little lacking and the reason for the 4 star review, but this is still a really solid book to understanding your kids and essentially their emotional/logical brain.

I think this is a great companion piece to The Highly Sensitive Child, but the latter does a better job at specific strategies.

Overall, I loved it and learned some new things and a few techniques to try out as a parent. 4.5/5 for me.

Fantastic! This book provided neuro research in an approachable, easy-to-digest format. I love learning about the brain, and this book hit the important points without being too technical. Instead, real-world, practical applications were included throughout. Many of the suggestions felt instantly applicable in my own life, whether in parenting my own toddler, working with my students at school, or even using some of the techniques to change my own mindsets. The “wheel of awareness” was a personal favorite! The “refrigerator sheet” and developmental stages charts at the end of the book really make it stand out in terms of practicality and usefulness. I know that I will reference them for years to come. I actually borrowed this book from a friend, but I plan to buy my own copy to revisit it every few years (or more!). So glad I read this book!

Incredible book with really good insight on why kids do and act the way they do, and how to best respond. Really eye opening. Anyone with a child should read this book!
