I remember when I first read this years ago I had an issue with it, even same with the movie, and that is that he didn’t fall for her until the play after seeing her physical beauty. I know that’s not entirely true and he does really fall in love with her, but it was always the one thing that bothered me after the move and even moreso in the book. Reading it again, yeah, still kinda felt that way. But there is character growth regarding Landon at the very end and I do think the story it wrapped up beautifully. There are also several quotes in here I really like, including the iconic “promise not to fall in love with me” one.
The book overall is not a favorite and I do not like Landon most of the way, but I do love this story.
My Rating System
1 star: Hated it/major DNF
2 stars: Not my cup of tea
3 stars: I liked it
4 stars: I really liked it! I can see myself rereading this
5 stars: A NEW FAVORITE!

This is the second book that I've read by Nicholas Sparks and i can tell this man loves to write sad endings. I didn't expect Jamie to have leukemia. I love how even if she was dying she tried to be happy. Yk what's worse? Not 24 hours ago i finished a story where the main character also had cancer and died in the end. Now that's enough emotional damage for today.
