Although I generally appreciate World War II novels, I have not been in the headspace for them recently. Since the reviews of this book insisted this novel still had a hopeful tone, I decided to try it and I’m glad I did. It’s really a story about finding joy despite tragedy surrounding you. I loved the characters and the epistolatory format worked well here. 

Highly recommend the audiobook!

This book is such an inspiration! I loved how the story is told through letters and writings from each of the characters. My favorite genre is historical fiction but this book was on another level. 
The underlying romance was a perfect touch!

Such a unique book, in terms of writing style, setting and story. It made me feel like I was there in Guernsey, and at the same time, longing to visit. The place and the people are written in such a way that they feel immediately familiar, which gives the story (even though it is relatively simple) such a warmness—a playful and enjoyable read.

Guernsey was a delight from start to finish! The characters were loveable, the plot was compelling, and it was easy to become emotionally invested. The politics of this book are not always fleshed out (more British nationalism than I care for, decontextualized plot point about phrenology, etc.) but it's a very good story.
