After an unfortunate incident, a lady vicar moves with her daughter to the smallest of towns. A town that by all accounts has also seen it fair share of unfortunate events. 500 years ago, 8 Protestant martyrs were burned at the stake. 30 years ago, 2 teenage girls disappeared and no one ever found out what happened to them. 2 months ago, the previous vicar committed suicide inside the church. Weird figurines representing the burning girls are left behind in church by the congregation. The vicar’s daughter begins to see the ghost of the burning girls. A very dangerous man was released from prison and now he’s making his way to the small town looking for them. The town is build upon secrets and more secrets. Can the vicar figure everything out and keep her daughter and herself safe from the dangers within?

Oh man, what a tremendous book. I started reading it and I was hooked right away. I mean, how can you not? The description alone is intriguing. It’s packed with twists and action and creepyness and spookyness. Definitely my kind of book. That final twist left me on edge. I did not see it coming. The setting is perfect, the writing exquisite. I think Tudor did an amazing job with this one. To say that I am now a fan, is an understatement. I will definitely be reading more of her work very soon.

What an ending!! Blindsided in the best way possible. Everything I thought I knew was totally wrong. There was an actual moment of staring at my bedroom wall in complete shock. Actually, I might still be in shock. Wow.

I really liked this thriller. This is the first book I have read from C.J. Tudor. I will definitely be adding some of her other to my reading list.

I couldn't put it down for the last 150 pages, I had to sit there and just finish it ☺️. It had a great twist and the overall completion to round up the story end of the story was good.

I don't want to give any of the story/plot away. But it was nice to have a story based around a true historical event, making it feel more probable.

I love it, as it had everything in it: love, crime, history, twists, backflashes and murder.

Well done CJ Tudor 👌

Such a great book! Very well written, I loved all the twist. Thought I saw the end coming but boy was I wrong.
