It's quite fun! Definitely more mature than the Inheritance cycle. Murtagh and Thorn have an equally close but very different relationship than Eragon and Sapphira, and I appreciated comparing them. A+ cult vibes on the island.

This was a great story, I just expected it to be more definitive. I thought Christopher Paolini was adding one new book to his series and that is so clearly not the case. This is the very start of something, not an end, so kind of my own fault for having wildly off-base expectations - whoopsie!

It was nice going back but I feel like I aged out of the series as I read it when it first came out.

Paolini once again delivers an incredible tale. Murtagh, while in the same world as his earlier works, is a much darker tale than you see in the likes of the Inheritance Cycle. He also manages to re-contexualize the WHOLE of said series. It was an absolute joy to see further into the tragic characters of both Murtagh, and his draconic companion, Thorn. As with the Inheritance Cycle, I would highly recommend to most fans of high fantasy. I eagerly await the next time we’re able to dive back into the world of Alagaësia.
