Good writing, but ideologically just not my cup of tea. A woman marries, gets stepkids and is treated like a maid, hates it all the while, then suddenly one of the kids has appendicitis and the woman now loves being a stay-at-home mom?? As my daughter would say, Really??? Seema's story and character were more interesting, but she and all the other characters seemed so invested in "men are this way, women are that way" that I barely managed to finish the book...

Absolutely loved this book! It's been a while since I read a good chick lit book and I love that this book is it. I admit things might have worked out a little too perfectly at the end but I loved how the girls' stories came together.

The mixing of the different viewpoints was fantastic as we view the same event through all 3 characters eyes. Writing was light and fun to read. Moments that made me laugh, cringe and yes, even tear a little bit.

Hard book for me to get into. Just a struggle from beginning to end.

Normally i don't mind a book in which each leading characters story is a different chapter. For some reason it just didn't flow for me this time.

I loved two of the storylines. Nic and Mel's were very interesting, and actually presented some real problems/issues that women have to deal with. Seema's story on the other hand...

I hated Scott. Hate, hate, HATED him. I found myself skimming the scenes with him because it was just the same misogynistic crap spewed over and over. "You women are so dumb!" "Why do we breed with you people?" "I don't care if you're upset because you're boyfriend of 6 years cheated on you. I'm a MAN and as a man, I know what's better for you than you do!" UGH.

Without Scott, this would've gotten four stars.

This was so adorable! I loved it from start to finish!

Want to know what's next for all of them, and maybe some new characters as well. I was so intrigued with this whole cake business; never heard of it! Sounds like fun. But I don't have as many friends as Nic did in this (24 of them!) so I don't think the charms would work that well...

Very cute, loved all of it. Can't wait to read more by this author.

I tried to give this book some leeway, since it was published a decade ago. Things that just would not fly now (*cough cough fat-shaming cough cough*) happened repeatedly in this novel. It was tiresome but I skimmed over it.

What I could not understand was how the focus of the story was so narrow. Three different women (all gorgeous, but only the married one believing she is somehow ok because, ya know, she's MARRIED) have nothing in their lives except their focus on other people. The two single women are focused utterly on their love lives (or lack thereof.) The married one falls hard into her role as stepmom with only the most obligatory protests... as though she'd been waiting her whole working career to do just that.

The "smart one" (who also is an adorable 5'2", 100 pounds and still talks about needing to lose 5 more pounds) has a 177 IQ. That is higher than Stephen Hawking. Yet she is totally ok being a high school teacher obsessed with the idea of getting married. It made me a little nauseous, honestly. We don't even see her in a classroom until it's a setting for her to meet a guy. Ugh.

The book was written in a style that seemed to scream, "wouldn't this make a great screenplay? Rom-com? Call me!!" Not exactly conducive to character development.

I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because it never pretended to be something it wasn't. A quick read, a beach read. You barely have to pay attention and you'd still get every nuance...

Read this in less than 24 hours. Fast paced, familiar feeling chick-lit with an unusually high level of foul language. Good for mindless time killing. I was especially fond of the cake pull storyline since I wanted to do it when I got married but never actually bothered to get the charms!
