“”So you’re a body snatcher, then?”
[…]
"I prefer ‘resurrection man’. Makes it sound a bit more
romantic, don't you think?"”

Pick this one up if you like: historical fiction with a side of mystery, strong FMC’s who break societal norms, Bridgerton, Divine Rivals, and anything medical/surgery related.

This book has a little bit of everything! Anatomy: A Love Story follows main character, Hazel, and takes place in the UK in the 1800s. Hazel comes from a prestigious family and is betrothed to a man from another prestigious family, but what she wants more than anything is to become a surgeon, obviously unheard of for women at this time. She strikes up an unlikely friendship with, Jack, a poor boy who digs up dead bodies to sell to the medical school for money to survive.

All of the medical references in this are super cool. I love a strong female character who pushes against adversity and boundaries. I definitely found myself rooting for Hazel. The beginning was a little slow for me, but by the end I was flipping pages. I think it’s pretty predictable, but still a fun and unique story! I would have loved a little bit more chemistry between the two main characters, but it was still very sweet. I am definitely interested to read the second book in the series to see how the story continues.

“"I'm not a fool, Jack Currer, no matter what you might think of me.”
"Oh, I assure you, Miss Sinnett, I've taken you for a lot of things, but a fool was never one of them.””

Wow what a beautiful, interesting book! It's about a gal wanting to be a doctor in like the 18th century. She wants to be a surgeon, theres some romance, there is a mystery and murder and anatomy. Any female doctors should read this book! It is a bit gruesome if you're super sensitive

10/10 for girlies in STEM.
I'm a bit upset about the cliffhanger at the end. Other than that, this book was perfection.

I love to see a strong-willed young woman take what she wants despite societal expectations and limitations. Her sheer determination was inspiring from beginning to end.

Despite literally all odds, she kept her sights set on her purpose and never faltered, even when she was falling in love. Even though the romance was a small part of the story, I think this book still did a phenomenal job of reinforcing that love is not the only thing that can be fulfilling, and just because you love someone doesn't mean you should negate yourself.

Good read! Finished it in a day. My one complaint would be that I enjoyed the parts that focused on the surgery or mystery aspects far more than the romance. It was like reading a story with multiple POVs and groaning with frustration whenever I was thrust back into the annoying character's brain. I even noticed myself tuning the narrator out at times when it got too boring and thinking "there's no way I'm going back to listen to all of that again, I'll just keep going"
I liked the ending, though. I would certainly listen to the sequel.

This was a feminist, gothic infused, mystery set in Edinburgh in the 1800s with a FMC determined to become a surgeon. I loved the setting, themes, characters, and the mystery all involved. I feel like some things came without trial for the MC and would’ve liked to see her have realistic failed attempts with some of her endeavors, but I think book 2 is set up for some of that. Love Hazel & Jack. Hate Bernard. Supppper curious about Dr Beecham
