Mixed feelings. On the one hand this book felt very fun--is that an appropriate description for a murder mystery?!--and it kept me guessing.

On the other, it kind of dragged at the same time? Not something I typically read. Definitely an Agatha Christie-bunch-of-family-together-who-dunnit.

“The only nobodies in this world are the people who pretend to be somebody; the people who think they are better than other people because of the way they choose to look, or speak, or vote, or pray, or love.”
Check trigger warnings. After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. Finally, back together one last time, when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours. This was an entertaining page-turner with clever twists. I loved the audiobook narrator I would definitely recommend it was truly a ride all the way through the novel.

I definitely got the ”And then there where none”  by Agatha Christie, influences in this book. Which by the way is one of my fav by miss Christie. I absolutely adore these pshycological and puzzle solving, murder mysteries that has you on the edge of your seat. I don’t read enough of these… It had be gripping the pages and I couldn’t flip through them fast enough to find out what happens next, who is the murdererer? Who is next victim? What does the videos and the scrabble words mean? So many questions that just kept piling up throughout the read. I did suspect how it was going to end, but it was still such a satisfying and thrilling twist ending! This is a compelling, twisted and dark read about family, and it’s so enthralling and fascinating. Well done. This one is definitely in my top reads of this year

Alice Feeney can do no wrong and I am her reader forever, especially since she did such a great job respecting the sub-genre of crime mystery called "closed room mystery", a genre so aptly represented by one of my childhood favourites "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie, which is not only the inspiration here but also makes a guest cameo.
This is a very dark novel, a very sad and personal one at times, which did not only keep me guessing until the end but also kept me emotionally furious and disgusted with a supremely disgusting cast of characters.
Alice Feeney is a great character writer and I love her final her books are. No wishy washy bullshit, the woman goes for blood.
I am always happy to see that there are still good thrillers in a sea of basic trash that gets published every year. I shall greedily await her next or will attack older installments.
