Fast read!

I'm currently in between series right now, most of you bookworms know what I'm talking about, the writers can't produce them fast enough for us! :P I'm definitely a huge fan of Jaymin Eve's books so when I came across this I had to read it! I was not disappointed! I have already pre ordered the next book coming out later this month!

Charlie lives in a world of vampires and ash. Ash are the spawn of vampires having relations with humans. Charlie hates these creatures after being attacked by them, but she will have to learn to deal with them because she goes through the change. She becomes the first female Ash. She is different than the rest and she will have to fight for her life.

The characters in this book are badass! I enjoy the vampire/ash story line, definitely different from a lot of the other paranormal books I read which is refreshing! If you don't mind a little romance mixed in with you action packed adventure ( which I definitely do not, I always need a little bit ) , then you should definitely give this book a try!

Great quick read. This was a great way to spend a cloudy afternoon during Winter Break. Charlie like Neo (The Matrix) doesn't think she can hold her won. She learns fast when its a matter of losing her life. Love Jayden her new BAFF. He is a touch of saucy that is needed in this kind of kill or be killed short read.

3.5 ⭐️ I enjoyed the story line but i was tired of hearing everyone described as being super hot allllllll the time and the constant mention of her special unicorn blood. That being said I would read book 2

I wanted to like this book so badly but it was just unbelievably cringey. Everyone's a stereotype and/or predictable and every woman, except her mother obviously, was decided to be either a hormone-addled moron or a bitch by Charlie, the main character.
The authors clearly tried to incorporate the found family trope but it fell flat. The group that's supposed to be considered the main character's 'family' is constantly referred to as sexy (that seems to be Charlie's favourite word along with badass, effin, and totes) and are shallow stereotypes that Charlie barely has an actual conversation with on page, that's about as much as you learn about the members. You barely get time to remember who is who before Charlie is lamenting about how wonderful this new family of hers is.
The dialogue reads awkwardly and everyone seems to talk in paragraphs most of the time. Charlie is almost unbearable too with her edgy tomboy superiority, it's hard to enjoy a book when it's hard to even like the narrator.
If you had asked me to write a book as self-indulgently as possible as a 12 year old, this would have been it. Can't believe this is likely gonna be my last book for the year.

What do you get when you combine two authors who are fantastic by themselves ... a book so good it can be considered a unicorn. Or a book with a character so unique she is referred to as a unicorn which is the case in Ash, book one of the amazing Hive Trilogy. I am so excited to reread this book as I believe this is one of the best and underrated books these two authors have published and I am pumped it is getting the shout out it deserves.

Ash is a young adult paranormal romance with a lot of action, intrigue and a strong female main character. Ash are vampire/human hybrids and they come into their ‘powers’ and need to feed at around twenty at which point they are removed from society and taken to the Hive to live with the other Ash and Vampires and are only allowed to join again in certain circumstances. Add to this the overcrowding of the Hive and the solution of the Culling and you have an action packed, fast paced novel full of drama, political intrigue and violence.

The characters in Ash are well written and you can’t help but empathise with Charlie as she has to let go of all she has known and join the Hive and then again as she undergoes the Culling. Ryder and the sexy six are a great addition to the book and I like how they all support each other and form a part of the greater group. Finally, Jayden her BAFF I think stole the show as he is the highlight of the book for me. I love that he bought light to the dark for Charlie, held her together throughout and accepted her for who she was regardless of what was revealed. I definitely need a Jayden/BAFF in my life.

Ash is a great start to an amazing series teasing the reader of the fantastic things to come. I would highly recommend it for readers who enjoy urban fantasy, young adult, vampires, action & violence, intrigue and a strong female character who might change the world.

Honestly, the story only got two stars from me, the additional star was because the plot was good and had a lot of potential. I will list down everything that put me off the book.

Charlie's personality majorly, I mean she is a special snowflake and gets a lot of advantage because of it too. There has never been another female Ash before her and that was interesting but then the author decided she wasn't one-of-a-kind enough and added some more special attributes that make her even more special, unfortunately, none of those special attributes could brighten up her annoying personality. She can never stick to her words or her decisions. From the start, she absolutely hates all the Ash, 'no matter how gorgeous they are' (her words, not mine) but then as soon as she meets Ryder, she starts falling for him, BAM, instant-attraction because they both are 'different'. Even when they first meet (and they haven't spoken yet, mind you), she first thought is, "He is different from the other Ash". I mean, there is absolutely nothing different or new about THAT line. Can you make it anymore obvious that he is going to be your love interest, not because he has a nice personality that suits you or anything but because he is different from the other and looks dangerous, please pray tell what was so different about him from the other Ash, were the other Ash also not dangerous, or did they have different sets of fangs or were they all non-dangerous cute little bunnies except, obviously Ryder.

Also, later on, when Ryder keeps ignoring all her non-subtle 'take-me' signals, she decides to stop wasting her time on him and move on but the very next second when Ryder decides to give in to their attraction and tries to kiss her, she voices out one weak no and then immediately melts when Ryder replies, "I don't care"(how romantic!). I mean, have some self-respect woman, you are making the rest of us look bad. How can you just give in without demanding any justification on why he's pushing you away one second and pulling you back another. Yes, she is told what happened to Ryder before with his ex-fiance from his friends but Ryder himself isn't sharing anything with you, maybe he does it in the next book but I won't be reading it.

Lastly, Jayden, it was cool that he was gay and black but why were they his defining points? And why was he given the stereotypical gay mold of the gay guy who has to have great fashion sense and coo over the heroine all the time, who is only there to comment on her clothes and dress her up? He does talk about other things with her too but the cliche gay best friend dressing the heroine because she obviously isn't interested in pretty clothes or makeup really annoyed me.

As I said, this book had a lot of potential but the bunch of cliches, meaningless insta-attraction between the leads, and the annoying non-decisive personality of the heroine ruined it for me.

re-reading Ash book 1 and refreshing my memory ready for the second book and boy I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. Ryder is scrumptious such a bad-ass. And Charlie aka the unicorn is such a strong character love these two. jayden the bestie and the sexy six what's not to like about this story, can't wait to start the next installment.
