This book brought me to tears at the end because of its beauty and wisdom and fun. I am so sorry that I have come to the end of the pleasure of hearing Vivian Morris’s jaunty cynical loving voice while I read this book.

Had so much potential but is just a bore. Written like a letter which I cannot get into

City of Girls was a complete change from the thrillers and mysteries I normally read. Because of this difference, it took me a while to feel fully engaged in the story. Once I was engaged though, I knew that 470 pages would end too soon.
I adored every single word of every story Vivian Morris had to tell. But what made me fall in love with this book was remembering every so often that Vivian was telling this story in her old age in the form of a letter. It reminded me of the times I would sit with my late Great Grandmother and listen to her stories- although the stories I was told were much more mild than any single story Vivian had to share. And when this story ended, and Vivian closes her letter to Angela, I cried. I cried on my couch with the book still open in my lap. And then I cried more into a towel in my bathroom. And then I returned to my couch and cried with the book closed on my lap. And then cried a little bit more before deciding to write this review.
Start to finish, City of Girls is the most endearing story I have ever been told. Elizabeth Gilbert has such a gift and I am so happy that she has chosen to share it with the world.

I’m just not in the mood for this right now. I think if I was I would really like this.
