How wonderfully strange.
The people pleaser in me grew increasingly uncomfortable, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the eeriness.

(2.5) I was quite underwhelmed by this book even though I went into it without knowing anything. I just kept waiting for the plot but... it just ended. Its definitely a character driven book so it makes sense why i didn't enjoy it as much. I wish we got more build up to the day of the poisoning to further develop why it had happened. I might have to revisit this book and physically read it rather than listen to the audiobook.

I support women’s rights. And wrongs. Especially if they’re witchy.

Can you go wrong with Shirley Jackson? Now, I will say, the only blip is the ending.

The prose in this book is so artful and delicate while also being gothic and angered; I thought it was beautiful. I also think the Afterwards which discussed the author, Shirley Jackson, gave me a greater appreciation for her work too. Would definetly recommend!!
