Genuinely amazing. Read it, idc your age. Includes history and journaling exercises in each chapter to help you examine your intersectional identities, personal history, and privilege.

This book is also colorful and beautifully illustrated by Aurélia Durand. It is honest and informative. It seeks to educate and encourages change. It is about allyship.
This book asks you to "listen and learn from folx who are outside the box of the dominant culture."

I wasn't sure about this to start with, but it just gets better and better. Pleasingly, it isn't entirely US-centric and includes a lot that's UK-specific, from Dr Harold Moody to Stephen Lawrence to Grenfell.

It's a great resource for teachers and parents as well as for young people.

In Oct 2021 copies of this book were delivered to all secondary schools in Southend-on-Sea as part of Jacqson Diego Story Emporium's "Book Elves" initiative.

Hade gått så länge sedan jag läste boken och kände inte att jag var lika intresserad i ämnet eller att det var relevant för mig just nu.

I skimmed this one for resources while trying to put together an online response to ongoing police brutality and uprisings. Ultimately I think parts of it work because my students have already learned a lot about racism in history and the present, which makes me think this book is a good supplement for other anti-racism work and history. It’s kind of a student workbook.

I think this was a good refresher book for me since I haven’t had as many opportunities to discuss race & intersectionality since being out of college. I appreciated the parts discussing segregation, reverse racism, and how to call people in & out. As an educator to students who are primarily a different race then myself, I hold great importance in keeping up with anti-racism practices.
