A Dash of Trouble

This is a very cute story of family, friends, magic and baking! I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Leo and her family.

This was a pretty cute book. I enjoyed it but wish the bullying by the kids would have been addressed here, maybe in the next books. There were a few heavy topics addressed and I am wondering if they will be brought up throughout the series.

This book was rather adorable - I wasn't expecting that much considering it's a bit out of my targeted age range - then again I did read another middle grade book earlier this month. The premise was cute - having love, sugar and a bit of magic to make spells, it was unique and I enjoyed reading it very much - there were laugh out loud moments and some moments that stick out as favourites. Of course the spells gone awry were a given - I am curious to see what happens in Book #2 this might be a series I continue with not just for a reading challenge but actually for fun - and some awesome recipes at the end of the book too - BONUS!

I don't know if it's more telling about [56-year-old] me or this charming [middle-grade] book, but I did NOT see that first twist coming. Such thoroughly engaging portrayals of magic, family, friends and baking! I loved A Dash of Trouble.

1/5/19 ETA: Yep, I shamelessly went back a second time because this middle-grade novel is so charming, and the audiobook version just arrived at my library. (If I feel the need to announce my lack of shame, am I truly shameless? Either way, this book makes me very happy.) It's so loving and full of kitchen magic. My only criticism is I wish the fabulous recipes and illustrations were included as extras with the audiobook. I like them so much that I've kept one of the illustrations on my desktop since I read the e-book a year ago.

A story about a girl who finds out her entire family is witches? OH YES PLEASE! This middle grade book was a delight and a half. Leonora, the youngest of 5 sisters, is excited because she just got her best friend back and it's almost Dia de los Muertos. Her family's bakery is always busy during the celebration, but this year, Leo is picking up on some weirdness (it's magic). Once she discovers she can do magic too, she gets up to some mischief. Not gonna lie, there's a significant cringe factor with some of Leo's decisions, and I wanted to scream when her sisters didn't tell their mom what was going on. Still, it all resolves in a charming fashion, and I hope to read more about the brujas of the Logroño family.
