This book is stunning. I absolutely loved it and dived headfirst into the magical world of Aleja and the crew of the Ship of Shadows.
The characters are so well written and I love that they are all badass women, especially because they are so well rounded. I particularly relate to Aleja because I too love reading all about adventures and listing after one of my own.
The plot too is well paced and it never felt like it was lagging or moving too quickly. It was just right, like the lore for the magic used which can be quite difficult to perfect but this book manages it perfectly.
I found it hard to put down and I look forward to seeing what is in store for the crew of the Ship of Shadows.

I absolutely loved these pirate-y vibes from this book! It was an amazing plot, and overall just a really great middle-grade.

Nothing was happening. It was so slow and there were chapters and chapters where literally nothing progressed. The premise seems like it'd be pacey and action packed, but it wasn't at all, and it's not like we were even getting much in the way of character development either because all of that was superficial stuff as well. Dare I say it...it was boring!

Full of whimsical fantastical fun. The most amazing pirate ship ever with secret shadow spaces and a unique all female crew each with their own strength. Come and meet your found family on board this empowering ship.
The crew all seem to have their backstories which we want to know more about, as does our protagonist. Who, by chance, has left her home where she was hampered by her size, gender and big ambitious dreams which were declared unsuitable for her. Thankfully the ship of Shadows allows her to thrive and takes us across the sea and through the desert.
