A fantastic collection of Japanese short stories from across the past few decades across genders and themes. The book is divided into themes such as Japan and the West, Loyal Warriors, Men and Women, Nature and Memory, Modern Life and Other Nonsense, Dread, and Disasters, Natural and Man-Made. There are about 34 stories in total and not a single one is dull or similar to any other. Japanese writers are filled with wit and ingenuity and this book clearly depicts the range of talent to emerge from the country. Loved this book so much.

"Leftover" 2022 read. Like any short stories collection, I had some favorites and some not-so-good.
I'm a fan of Japanese art, anime, and games but haven't read a lot of literature beyond Murakami and Kawakami, so it was fun to try and identify the common cultural threads. I found the atomic bombing-related stories incredibly hard to read, proof of how powerful narratives can be.
