How on Earth am I meant to rate this properly? It is a book which has influenced some of my favourites and just about everyone. Once I got into it I really enjoyed it! It is a shame I deemed it boring from the first chapters as a child, I think if I'd read the rest I'd have found it has many elements I loved (minus the spiders >_<). Luckily I didn't remember much from the first and third of the films (I missed the second one...), so I got to experience it fully. Definitely getting my hands on The Lord of the Rings next!
Bilbo is the guy ever. Love that little man.

The Hobbit is my favorite of Tolkien's works, it's light-hearted and easy to read [ unlike the emotionally heavy and wordy LotR novels ]. I've read this book over and over and cannot wait for the movie in the winter!

I mean, I don't really know what to say. I'd never read it before and I slogged my way through it mostly because of the movie. It's pretty tedious, and there are far too many dwarves. It's also clearly for a different age/audience than LOTR. I think LOTR are great books, but the Hobbit? Just ok.

I did not finish this great novel... not quite my taste at the moment BUT I didn't know how to take it off my currently reading list. So... here it is!
