Murderbot, my beloved 😭
It took me slightly longer to get into this one, but I think that's because I was still, like, mentally gnawing on the first one.

Muderbot leaves the humans who have been assigned as their guardians in the last book, to find out more about their murky past. To do so they must face on of their greatest fears. Interacting with real humans.

So much fun to go along for the ride with Murderbot as they navigate their way amongst humans, and as they deal with their social anxiety. The new cast of characters is also great, I especially liked the sarcastic transport ship, ART, or Asshole Research Transport as Murderbot call them. Sentient bots, and transport ships for that matter, need to stick together.

I do like this novella. Murderbot and ART are great characters. But I do see a lot of room for improvement. The climax was lackluster with no real danger, most of the story was predictable, and the secondary characters weren’t fleshed out enough. I much prefer longer books, so I may be biased, but I think it would have been better if it had more time to set things up.

Whooo boy, this was just so much fun to read! I loved Murderbot and ART’s interactions. They had this really great antagonistic friendship that was almost sibling-like in someways. I just loved them and I would kill to have them back together for another book.

Murderbot is somehow the most relatable character ever?? It’s anxious, socially awkward, touch averse, and obsessed with its comfort show. ART played the theme song from Sanctuary Moon to help calm Murderbot down after a panic attack. And it was a really sweet moment between them. I also found it sweet that Murderbot got so attached to the crew that hired it as a security consultant. Even when it didn’t want to. But also trying to dig into its past? Oh man. That’s gonna be a whole other can of worms, isn’t it? I’m just so excited to continue with this series! Artificial Condition is getting a solid five stars.

Wells is so good at making me feel attached to such loveable characters. This was the perfect book to read in between my horror binge. Funny and adventurou while giving me adrenaline rushes whenever a character was in trouble.

I still have occasional problems keeping up with the new sci-fi terms, but it's not too difficult. It only required me to do some re-reading.

Also, this is my first time seeing neopronouns used in published media. And I adore seeing Wells continue representing adorable polyamorous relationships.
