This was fine but kind of forgettable. I actually wish it was longer. I didn't have enough time to care about the relationships. The book asks me to care about Lark and Wren right away without showing any scenes of them interacting before shit hits the fan. I got their dynamic later in the book, but it would have been nice to have a base established before plot started happening. Same with Lark and Nightingale, although I think information about their relationship was much better paced. Still, there was room for so much more exploration of both these relationships that more pages could have helped. I know the plot wouldn't work if Lark wasn't the one to track Nightingale, but Lark is the absolute WRONG person to be tracking Nightingale!!! The whole "Lark is the only one who can catch Nightingale because they did it once before" thing was really distracting especially since it was clear from the beginning that Lark would not stop Nightingale if it meant hurting her. I don't know what anyone was thinking putting them in a leadership role given their history with Nightingale, so the set up for that plot was kind of goofy. Characters even admit this at the end of the book.
