The other literary guides I've read from Ryken (Hamlet & Scarlet Letter) blew me out of the water. This one was simply fine. It may be that I'd studied the Odyssey more than the others when I picked this one up, or just naturally grasp its themes better. But I felt like Ryken wasn't as on-top of his game as he is in other places.
All that being said, even when Ryken isn't at the top of his game, he's still good and I still profited from this. If you're looking for a short, quick introduction to the Odyssey and to literary analysis as a whole, this is a good place to go.
Rating: 3.5-4 Stars (Good).

I enjoy these volumes from Ryken. Helpful and interesting. I would enjoy some longer volumes with the same focus on books of such significance, but the shorter versions are definitely more approachable.
These are incredibly useful resources.
