This book is like a bad mushroom trip without your own paranoia.

It's time to admit to myself that I'm never going to finish reading this.

I was pulled in instantly to the sort of punkish, irreverent first person vibe and intrigued by the premise... but for some reason my mind just can't hold this book and every time I try to read it it gets less and less interesting and more jumbled.

I'm totally willing to admit this is probably me reading this at the wrong point in my life, or in the wrong mood, or something. It just isn't meshing with me and I don't think I'll pick it up again.

Very strange. Pretty funny (in a 12 year old boy humor type of way). There isn’t much of a plot, and it’s really just several little, random horror hijinx.

Ultimately, I’d describe this as “what the hell even was that?“ which is, incidentally, my favorite genre. I can see why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea— especially since it’s also pretty gross, some parts dragged on a little, and it’s somewhat outdated (and definitely not PC).

If you’re considering this, best not to know anything going into it!

Someone reviewed this book as 12 year old boy's humor. I think they were being generous. I think the book would be 100 pages shorter if they cut out the swearing and at least 50 pages shorter if John would stop talking about his penis. Ugg. I think the story itself had great potential, I loved the several twists at the end. However, I will not be reading the rest of the series.

This book wasn't predictable in where it would go. But it seems like the author was making up the plot by introducing random events. It was a nice adventure read, and it wasn't predictable, but it didn't try to tie up loose ends either. Oh well.
