Woven between the past and the present The Lost Apothecary at its core explores the lives of women dealing with heartbreak and the choices of how to deal with those emotions.

It was fine. Not badly written. A few gripes though. First, it felt like she found the shop too quickly. She just did a bit of research and easily unraveled the whole story- not much suspense there. Second, the way she acted around her husband seemed weird to me. She goes to London to escape her cheating husband and then when he arrives she asks him if he wants to join her for dinner. She figures out he ingested poison to manipulate her into staying with him, and then they share a goodbye where it seems like she forgot that just happened and gives him a long hug. Why is she not more pissed at this man? They're sleeping in the same room and being cordial?? Finally, I was peeved that she decided to keep Eliza a secret. What the fuck for? A whole theme in the book is women's history, and Nella writing down womens' names so they wouldn't be forgotten. And then the book closes with Caroline deciding not to share Eliza's existence with the world. Wtf

Very fun, spooky read with a great cast of women. The modern-day woman, Caroline, was admittedly my least favorite character. But I really loved the 1800s women - particularly Eliza. The ending was really satisfying and I was happy to get the closure that the book provided.
