Wow. I am not sure why I didn't DNF this book. Maybe because I hoped everything would come together in the end? This book felt like an unedited first draft. There was so much filler, and was overtly descriptive. And overall was just such a letdown. It didn't know if it wanted to be American Horror Story's version of the circus or a crack fanfic of Supernatural with Hemingway as a side character.

I think I am most disappointed in the book's circus being magical, and a punishment for souls

I started reading this book on a whim
- because it was available at my library.

I’m so glad that I did.

The plot itself is great, I loved the swift pivot from mystery to fantasy and back again, it felt like Addie Le Rue meets Night Circus meets Monkeybone and I am HERE for it.
