You know... I really didn't think I would like this. I did. I read the series straight through until I felt like the characters were getting cardboard and forgettable and dropped it. Took a number of books for it to get there.

Not bad.

Funny book! There are a few series out like this one. Like most of those the Chicagoland Vampires series is really funny and witty. The house system reminds me a lot of Harry Potter. Also the book make a lot of Buffy references which is always cool.

Hmm

A little predictable, a little cliched, but a lot entertaining. I’m definitely in for the series here. I can see this only getting better.

Oh how much I loved this book.

It was just awesome. I loved the story it was a good one. I liked how it was about choices you can make, or well the choice that Merit has to make.

This book is about Vampires. One very over done subject but Chloe Neill does it her own unique way. Most books you read are about people willing wanting to become Vampires, this one isn’t. This one is about being thrust into a world and having to learn how to deal with the things chucked your way.

Merit is such a brilliant main character that she just makes this books. Her charm, sense of humour, lack of style are what makes her the best character. The way she protects her friends they’re just such amazing qualities to have and makes reading about her brilliant.

I love how we learn as Merit does. It made me feel more involved in the book and the story. The story just flowed and made you want to continue reading.

I can’t wait to see what more mischief Merit gets up to in the next book!

So I give this a 3.5 I figured out the "villains" early on and don't like Ethan at all. Morgan on the other hand.... if only our star girl would jump on board

I read a review that put this book and one of my favorite series on par. I've been sitting on this series for almost 3 months now and finally decided yesterday to start it. I finished it in less than 12 hours and that includes the time I was at work and couldn't read.

Merit is a graduate student in Chicago studying medieval romantic literature. One night she is attacked by a vampire and saved by Ethan Sullivan, Master of the Cadogan house. Unhappy about her new status Merit struggles to figure out where she fits. Attracted to Darth Sullivan, estranged from her parents, and having to follow rules that limit her independence, Merit finds her place.

I liked Merit, a lot. Most of the kick butt heroines are either so macho they almost come across as too mannish ( therefore are only attracted to the uber alpha male) or they are whinny and indecisiveness which drives me nuts. Merit is neither of those. She likes romance, comfy jeans and chunky monkey ice cream. She has girlfriends, which is awesome. I do adore her roommate Mallory and I hope that their friendship continues.

Ethan is a piece of work and drives both the reader and Merit nuts. he does noting without some hidden motivation. Everything is on his agenda and unfortunately that put Merit in the place of pawn, not something she likes. If anything between the two of them is actually going to happen then he needs to stop manipulating her.
SpoilerBasically handing her over to Morgan was mean and totally set you back to square 1 Ethan.

I am so starting the next book.

If anyone reads these my favorite series is the Kate Daniels books by Ilona Andrews. AWESOME!

The first half was a real struggle and I was skimming here and there. The world building wasn't a particularly unique so it wasn't a loss but the 2nd half picked up. By the end it had enough potential for me to want to continue the series but no rush.

The om and ow dimension adds a little spice becuase the mystery was so thread bare it really wasn't a mystery. Unfortunately the one scene that could have really brought some zing on the relationship stakes
Spoiler where the h see's him with the ow
was so badly done it leaves a permanent stain on the supposed romance.
SpoilerHow does a woman who is into someone not have a jealous or negative reaction when said interest is having sex with ow?
No angst, zip, nada. What disappointment and it leached the romance of any authenticity. This is somewhat recovered by the end, but major points lost.
