I spend a lot of time trying to guess the ending of books, and this one took me by complete surprise! I loved every bit of it, from the stories of Scarlett’s life in the past to the stories of Georgia’s in the present. Sooo good!

This book was soul crushing, empty my tissue box tear-jerking and contains a love story that felt more real than anything else. Jameson and Scarlett’s story was powerful and touched my heart so much. Along with their love story, we also got an amazing story of sisterly love between Scarlett and Constance woven in that was just as poignant as the romantic one. Set during WWII, Scarlett and Jameson fall in love with each other and find joy together. Both loving and getting to feel the once in a generation, lightning in a bottle love that I think everyone looks for, but few find. Their story makes this whole book shine. The added bonus of seeing the love and bond between Scarlett and Constance as two sisters who are nearly inseparable and who both give each their best, weaves through and ultimately shines bright.

The ending of Scarlett and Jameson’s story was beautifully done, both the real life one, and the one that is written for them.

Easily a 5 * read except for the second love story that is told. The one between Georgia and Noah pales in comparison, it feels rushed and put in as a filler that is too convenient. Every time I had to read about them I rushed and wanted to get to Scarlett and Jameson. It’s probably bad, but even the story of (BIG SPOILER DONT CLICK UNLESS YOU READ THE HOOK)
Constance and Brian, as briefly mentioned as it was, I think it was better.

To love like what Scarlett found, that’s what I want to find too.

Wow. There were so many beautiful and heartbreaking twists and turns in this book. After having read Fourth Wing first, I know that Rebecca Yarros is one to build a world you are genuinely invested in. And this book is no different.

I loved the “The Notebook”-esque vibes of the book - telling a tragic war time story parallel to a love story in the present. And each character was so deeply developed and complex, which made it exciting for me to experience as the reader.

AND THAT TWIST AT THE END? Seems to be Rebecca’s signature - a metaphorical or literal bomb at the end of the story. But I think it was so beautifully written you can’t even get mad.

My only critique of this lovely 4.5⭐️ read is that I wish there was even more from Georgia and Noah. I honestly could have read 10 more chapters (or even a juicier epilogue) about them and their relationship. But otherwise, what a treat to read a book so delicately and specifically crafted - I think that’s her superpower.

One of the best books I’ve read this year so far! I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, and literally kicked my feet and giggled at the cute romantic scenes (both past & present timelines) because the book was just that fucking good. If you were looking for a sign to pick it up, THIS IS IT.
