I'm glad I finished this book because I can finally say I read it, though it was just okay. The number of characters introduced in the first chapter was overwhelming. This is my third book by Rebecca Yarros, and it seems like she often includes a lot of information at once.

The unexpected twist at the end was surprising and emotional, but I moved on quickly, which personally meant it didn't fully satisfy me.

I enjoyed Scarlett and Jameson's love story, but Noah and Georgia's relationship felt forced.

To be honest, I might revise this review later, as I'm starting to feel more disappointed than okay.

THIS BOOK! Omg I was not expecting the ending of this. I listened to this on Audible and it was a mystery, historical fiction, romance, and duel timelines/stories. This is EMOTIONAL. The present day story is about Georgia whose grandmother has just died and she must now settle her estate and also her unfinished novel. In the past, Georgia’s grandmother, Scarlett, is in WWII in Britain. The unfinished novel by Scarlett is her personal love story and Georgia hires Noah to finish it. The stories connect and mysteries are discovered and I loved every minute of it.

Oof. Y'all are really going to hate me for this one. This book just didn't do it for me unfortunately. I wanted to hop on the RY wagon, because everyone loves FW and IF (genres I don't enjoy in general, nothing to do with RY). This one seemed the most promising and piqued my interest.

So many of you told me this made them so emotional and tore their heart open...so I must be a monster. This story, while cute and raw at times, did not destroy me. Maybe I read too much dark romance, so not much phases me. The premise of this story can be challenging for some; however, as someone without any ties or background in the military, it did not speak to me the way it has for so many others.

I found myself struggling to keep picking up the book, especially for the beginning half. It did not captivate me enough, so I did not want to go back for more. But I am no quitter. With that being said, I am glad I continued to read through because that twist was pretty delectable! I didn't see it coming, so that was an enjoyable surprise! I think the twist is what boosted my rating from a 2.5 to a solid 3.

Let me make one thing clear. RY is a phenomenal author that tells great stories for a niche set of people. I am unfortunately not one of those people. Am I glad I read this? Sure. Will I recommend it to others? Depending on what you're into, probably not. Furthermore, I think this book confirmed for me that I am not into historical romance. To each their own! If you are into historical romance, I think this is a perfect book for you! If you like more of the contemporary/modern stuff, I think it's safe to avoid this one. While the chapters go between now and back then, I was not too pleased with the "now" parts. The focus here is really the historical element!

All in all, I struggled to connect with this book, mostly for my own personal reasons. I can understand why others truly enjoy this book. While it is not for me, I am so glad I gave it a try.

This book was soul crushing, empty my tissue box tear-jerking and contains a love story that felt more real than anything else. Jameson and Scarlett’s story was powerful and touched my heart so much. Along with their love story, we also got an amazing story of sisterly love between Scarlett and Constance woven in that was just as poignant as the romantic one. Set during WWII, Scarlett and Jameson fall in love with each other and find joy together. Both loving and getting to feel the once in a generation, lightning in a bottle love that I think everyone looks for, but few find. Their story makes this whole book shine. The added bonus of seeing the love and bond between Scarlett and Constance as two sisters who are nearly inseparable and who both give each their best, weaves through and ultimately shines bright.

The ending of Scarlett and Jameson’s story was beautifully done, both the real life one, and the one that is written for them.

Easily a 5 * read except for the second love story that is told. The one between Georgia and Noah pales in comparison, it feels rushed and put in as a filler that is too convenient. Every time I had to read about them I rushed and wanted to get to Scarlett and Jameson. It’s probably bad, but even the story of (BIG SPOILER DONT CLICK UNLESS YOU READ THE HOOK)
Constance and Brian, as briefly mentioned as it was, I think it was better.

To love like what Scarlett found, that’s what I want to find too.
