While I did like this book and enjoyed reading it, I didn't love it.
My mistake, perhaps, as the same has happened to me with the "remakes" of Agatha Christie's books. You have great characters, good plots and amazing writers but the whole doesn't seem to gel together.

I've been a Sherlock Holmes fan since I was quite young, and I've re read most of the books several times. The plots are very smart and Sherlock Holmes and Watson flow through the books, where their personalities complement each other and grow with each book.

In this book, some of the stories were much better than others, that is that I found them quite uneven. Also, I can't picture Holmes and his relations with women as they are described in this book. And Watson is not as interesting as in the original stories.

Overall, a pleasant read but not comparable to the original.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable collection of Sherlock Holmes stories not written by Conan Doyle. The author captures Doyle's style well, but doesn't bring anything new to the characters of Holmes & Watson. I liked the description of late 19th and early 20th century London,  the fog shroud streets, the grit and grim that made London a character
in the book.

Absolutely my favorite set of Holmes stories. I’d place these even above many of Conan Doyle’s originals. Faye gives the characters a heart and vibrancy they have never had before. I’ve read dozens of Holmes pastiches, but none had me feeling like Sherlock and Watson could actually be real people like this set did. She saw through the usual tropes and gave them depth and humanity, as well as writing engaging and creative mysteries for them to solve.

I am excited to read more by Faye!

I thought the voices of Sherlock/Watson were very well done in this one, and the stories were carefully crafted to fit just so between the canon.

How is her Watson voice SO good??????? Sounds as though it came straight from the pen of Conan Doyle himself. I am ever impressed.

Rewriting Holmes so that he's way too woke. Also the stories were kinda boring.
