Good, but not as good as his later books. Would still recommend.

Gripping and packed full of humour and action. I don't think I've read anything like it before, despite reading a couple of Buehlman's books. This book sits somewhere between Bret Easton Ellis and Chuck Palahniuk (better than the latter though).

Fishy Slavic mermaid and alcoholics and maybe the Russian mafia and also toilet portals. Baba Yaga. A MYSTERY. Lots of magic but like voo doo, not hogwarts. I was unsettled and confused but in a good way. Did I mention Baba Yaga.

While I enjoyed most of the aspects of the plot behind this book, I found the writing to be a little much for me. It wasn't. terrible, just not always easy to follow. I am not totally sure I'd like to read another Christopher Buehlman book, but I'd be willing to give it a try.

50% of this book was quirky, funny, and peopled with fascinating characters.

50% of this book was kind of dull and could have probably met with the editor.

The Necromancer's House swung pendulum-like between these two extremes.

Good story but I was just so confused. Not what I was expecting.
So much going on and I couldn’t keep things straight. I may try this one again at some point if I am more in a fantasy or folklore type mood
