Left the last 10 pages because Sophie's attitude was really eating me.

Great idea, mediocre execution. Had some interesting parts, but mostly felt like it was never ending. It also felt unfinished.

I wanted to like it more, if for no other reason than the fact that I've had it on my bookshelf since 1999--that's 31 years!--but this wasn't the book I hoped it would be. The book-within-a-book structure
Spoilerand the characters who became self-aware
just added to the surreality. I love philosophy, but even the philosophic lessons within couldn't save it for me.

This book is the bane of my existence! I tried and tired to read it, ever since 1998! Finally I gave up, I just couldn't get into it, oh well!

A more accurate subtitle would have been "A Novel About the History of WESTERN Philosophy." 3.5 stars.
