I had to read this book carefully because Marie Colvin’s work and life are important and the details demand attention and her sacrifice merits solemnitude. I cannot know tonight, as I finish the book, how it will affect the rest of my life, but I know that it will.

This was one of those books that I picked up on a whim, knowing nothing about it beforehand and I’m really glad that I did. I found the story of Marie’s life fascinating and heartbreaking at times. I feel like I got a glimpse into the world of war journalism that I knew absolutely nothing about and I found it really interesting.

What a STUNNING document of Colvin’s life by someone who revered her, but was still, in the first-hand, aware of her demons and struggle.
Narratively stunning and absolutely harrowing, Hilsum paints Colvin with devastating intimacy, creating a conflicted personal hero for me, personally, as someone who was too young to take in Colvin’s work as it was published.
The empathy developed upon, and the educational aspects, re: the war torn environments Colvin found herself in, gave specific context without feeling bogged down, and all-in-all was a fantastic addition to an already stellar biography.
A book for the ages, in my opinion. Emotional, unafraid, compassionate.

Written (and read) by one of my favourite reporters, I really really really really really (one for every star) liked this book. Now slightly obsessed with this woman. Also slightly turned off becoming a war reporter. But she was cool.
