Sometimes tragic, sometimes funny, Dan Rhodes uses ironies and twists to tell 101 very short stories about the ways romantic love can look like. Sorted alphabetically by title, these 101 pieces of flash fiction are very similar to one another, but also very different. I’ve never read Dan Rhodes or a collection like this, but I’m excited to dive deeper into both. Also, the cover is absolutely stunning!

Why do I have the feeling that much of this went over my head?

Still, I liked the quirky bits. Other parts were more unsettling.

This is one of the most random books I've read in a long time. I love the cover, that's what drew me to it in the first place. I love the format, 101 different stories of women, each contained on it's own page. Amazing how much story each one had, in just a few lines!

Brutal and funny, sometimes both, and kind of strange. 101 short stories of 101 words each, about 101 different girlfriends. Worth reading if you have an hour to spare and want something relatively light :) a lot of the girls were quite cruel though, or ridiculously shallow, and i'm still undecided as to whether it wasn't fairly anti-feminist or misogynistic...

One hundred one short stories, each one hundred one words long, all in the first person with a narrator and his girlfriend. Collectively they amount to an anthropology of modern relationships, capturing the full range of emotions from funny to romantic to sad. But as the stories progress they are increasingly bizarre, dark, and off centered, a trajectory that is mirrored in the increasingly bizarrely named girlfriends.

I read a few stories a day, each one takes less than a minute and reads like a prose poem, and I plan to dip into them again in the future.

This is a quick read because each story is only 101 words in length. It's an interesting process because it's hard to get a whole literary thought into only 101 words, but Rhodes does a good job on most of them. I find it very interesting because I like writing 55 Fiction which is very similar. It's all about love and sex and girlfriends, if you're into that sort of thing.

Saw this in the library yesterday and it looked like a cute and quick read. I was 50% correct.

I do wonder if maybe short story collections like this simply aren't for me. They all just end up feeling weird and random for the sake of it.

Super weird (very) short stories about relationships. A little too out there for me but very well done.
